6:16. “కపటులు ఉపవాసం చేసినప్పుడు ప్రజలు గమనించాలని తమ ముఖాలు నీరసంగా కనిపించేటట్లు చేసుకొంటారు. మీరు ఉపవాసం చేసినప్పుడు అలా చేయకండి. ఇది సత్యం, వాళ్ళు పొందవలసిన ఫలాన్ని పొందారు. యింకేమీ లభించదు.

6:16. మీరు ఉపవాసము చేయునప్పుడు వేషధారులవలె దుఃఖముఖులై యుండకుడి; తాము ఉపవాసము చేయు చున్నట్టు మనుష్యులకు కనబడవలెనని వారు తమ ముఖము లను వికారము చేసికొందురు; వారు తమ ఫలము పొంది యున్నారని నిశ్చయముగా మీతో చెప్పుచున్నాను.

6:16. "When you fast, do not look sullen like the hypocrites, for they make their faces unattractive so that people will see them fasting. I tell you the truth, they have their reward.

6:16. "And when you fast, don't make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.

6:16. Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.
